Over half a million visitors each year witness Lux Helsinki as familiar buildings and spaces transform into unique works of urban art. The power and beauty of light attracts people to come and admire this winter phenomenon during the darkest time of the year – even defying the coldest nights. Throughout the festival, Helsinki is illuminated with various light-themed art pieces. Lux Helsinki Eat also sells eatables for its visitors during the entire event.
Lux Helsinki is enabled and organised by the City of Helsinki. The festival has been awarded with Helsinki Travel by Helsinki Tourism Foundation in 2017. This award is given to parties or an event that has a positive impact on the tourism industry, its reputation and customer satisfaction.
Oh, and did I mention, Lux Helsinki is free of charge to people of all ages! The event is also accessible for people with reduced mobility. Gear up your kids with sound cancelling headsets, though – the decibels can get up quite high at times!
Experience Lux Helsinki light art festival on 5-9th of January 2019 and tag your photos and videos #luxhelsinki for a chance to be featured!
